Scientific Sketching - Narrow-leaved Bottle Brush

Hello Fellow Readers. Yesterday we start to draw a plant/flower of our choice from
outside and draw it realistic and not how we see a plant/flower in our head. When we
got to go outside and I went straight for the narrow-leaved bottle brush because it
was bright red. I liked how this look but when I started to draw it I realised how hard
 it was.

Here is how it turned out next to the real plant/flower. I am kind of happy how it
turned out.

Callistemon linearis (Narrow-Leaved Bottlebrush)

Family name: Myrtaceae
Scientific name: Callistemon Linaris
Common name: Narrow-leaved Bottle brush

When we had finished drawing our plant/flower we had to write facts about it.
These are the facts I put on my piece of paper.
- Their other name is 'Callistemon'
- The plant was described as a genus in 1814
- Did you know the narrow-leaved bottle brush came from Australia
- The plant is from a tree and the tree is a evergreen tree

We also had to put the height. The height of my plant that I picked was 20 cm.

I found this task interesting and fun. I would give this task a 7/10.

I hope you enjoyed reading/looking at my post. Why don't you give it a go?

  1. Hello Millah! My name is Mia from Yaldhurst Model School. WOW! I loved your drawing, it looked very similar to the picture. I also loved the way you added in lot's of different facts, they were very interesting.

I have never heard of that plant before! I think I may have seen it before, but never known the name. Why do you think it is called the Narrow-leaved Bottle brush? I wonder where the name came from?

To improve, maybe you could put in the spaces in between each sentence instead of in the middle of it. For me, it makes it kind-of hard to read. But other than that, you have done an amazing job!

    Superb work!
    Mia
